Idul Fitri (Lebaran)

I don’t know if those masks are for Idul Fitri or not, but Jakarta is really changing right now. The end of Ramadan coincides with Independence Day here and the city is turning Red and White (the national flag colors) and really devoutly Islamic right now. If I wasn’t suffering culture shock already, I’d be feeling it now.

  1. I love this photo. It really captures the contradictions of modern Indonesia.

the masks are not for idul fitri. they are for Eksobatika , stands for Exotic Batik. This is an event in Grand Indonesia which coincidentally launch during Ramadhan until Idul Fitri. If you visit this spot now, the management Grand Indonesia added a board on left side written “Happy Idul Fitri”. I guess you took this picture before Idul Fitri, right. 🙂
