Ducks? Get out of the way, ducks.

I took this shot on my way home last week.  It’s the Sumas River.  I drive alongside it most of the way home.

I thought I had this beautiful shot of the willows’ reflections in the water.  It looked great in the camera’s LCD.  I got home, downloaded it and found that there were two ducks mucking up the perfect reflections.

Thanks a lot, ducks.  I think it turned out alright, even with the water-“foul”.

  4. Hey teacher leave them ducks alone! Great choice to go with black and white and I think you chanced on a great moment with the ducks. Two seconds later they’d be in the shadows and all you would’ve got is the traces of ducks! They bring interest to the lower third of the photo. The reflections on this expanse of water are more interesting because of the duck ripples. The tree reflected on the right looks great with half autumnal “skeletal” and the other half leafy and slightly blurred with the ripples. The first law of photography is the duck principal, here’s another example: http://steelcitystatic.wordpress.com/2011/11/08/return-of-the-duck-s2/
By the way the new banner on the blog is great too. Love it.

    • We don’t need no eDUCKation.

Honestly, I kind of like the ducks now, but I didn’t notice them while composing the shot. They were a surprise.
