WordPress Photo Challenge: Foreign

This is a shot of the Prambanan Temple complex near Yogyakarta.  It is part of my (adopted) country, but being both Hindu and over 1000 years old, it is foreign to me.

  1. Love the K 1000! My first 35 mm. Broken but still sitting on my shelf. I don’t have the heart to throw it away! Beautiful photoblog!
    Peace,

    • Thanks.

My K1000 is still in great working order, but in storage back home in Canada. When it doesn’t work anymore, I’ll retire it to the shelf.

  2. I’ve been there. It’s beautiful, but lots of students kept wanting to practice their English with us.

    • It is beautiful.

We avoided everyone as much as possible, but my son and daughter attract a lot of attention – Caucasian kids with blonde hair are nearly as interesting as the sites themselves.

      Amazing place.

  6. I have never associated Indonesia with Hinduism. I see from Wikipedia that Hindus now represent less than 2% of the population of Indonesia. It doesn’t say whether they are concentrated in Java – Do you know whether they are?

    • Actually, they’re mostly concentrated in Bali. This temple complex is around 1200 years old…long after Islam took its hold here.

      • Thanks – I wondered whether modern-day Hindus would be drawn to live near where the ancient temples are. Thanks for clarifying. :-)

      • I’m heading to Bali for Christmas, so I’ll know a little more then. From what I understand, most Balinese towns are built around a central Hindu temple, whereas Java is about 90% Muslim.
