WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Colorful

Easily the most colorful event I’ve attended within my own country (Canada is colorful, but not like a Guatemalan market) was the Indian wedding earlier this month.  It was amazing.  The bride, above, was a vision of beauty, but I loved seeing her brothers (?  Cousins?) escort her through the temple.  The red bandanas marked them as part of the bride’s side of the wedding.  At my wedding, everyone just sat on one side of the church or the other to denote who they were with.

    • This was the first Indian wedding I’d attended and it was visually stunning. I kept looking for something that I could recognize from my own wedding and there was nothing I could use as a touchstone. Pretty and amazing.

    • I know. Incredibly. I kept standing around with my jaw open throughout the entire wedding.

  4. I want to attend Indian wedding and experience the party…i heard there is a lot of dancing and singing…or is it just in the movie?

    • Actually, I only know about Sikh weddings (assuming there are differences between Sikh and Hindu weddings), but the dancing all happened at the reception. The singing? The entire ceremony was sung, in Punjabi. For a white guy like me, who has no education in Punjabi at all, it was all a mystery. A big, colorful, beautiful mystery.

  6. I love the thought of the bride being escorted through the temple with this amazing pair of “bodyguards” – now I really want to know about the groom!

    • I’ll try to post a shot of the groom. He was done up “to the nines” in traditional Indian clothing as well. It was a cool experience.
